PEACE EDUCATION AND SOCIAL JUSTICE

About Us

Our Purpose

To build a culture of peace on a healthy planet, the Global Peace Education Network connects peace educators and communities, advocates peace education policies and programs, and campaigns for an official United Nations Global Peace Education Day.

Campaign for a Global Peace Education Day

While the United Nations has established more than 150 international days for different humanitarian themes, there is no day dedicated solely to peace education. Because peace is central to the UN mission, an official UN day should be declared to promote peace education throughout the world.

Our journey so far

On September 20th 2021, the Global Peace Education Network organized to advocate peace education programs and policies, to connect peace educators with each other and the communities they serve, and to promote grassroots peace education activity. Our inaugural event was the first annual Global Peace Education Day Conference.

Some 1,600 people from 86 countries attended in 2021; another 3,000 watched the event on YouTube Live. Nearly 700 attendees from 71 countries submitted feedback that was overwhelmingly positive.

At the inaugural conference, a range of presenters showcased creative and practical approaches to global peace building: peace advocates, educators, officials, dignitaries, scholars, scientists, civic leaders, clergy, and artists.

Organizers included the Global Movement for a Culture of Peace, Fundación Cultura de Paz, National Peace Academy, International Institute for Peace Education, Global Campaign for Peace Education, UNESCO Center for Peace, Spanish Federation of UNESCO Associations and Clubs, The Prem Rawat Foundation, Pathways to Peace, Green Hope Foundation, African Training and Research Centre in Administration for Development, Untapped Global, Seeds of Peace, Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, United Religions Initiative, Global Alliance for Ministries, and Unity Foundation.
